It hasn’t always been easy sledding this season for the Vancouver Canucks, which is why a night like this seemed to land a little differently. The Canucks jumped out early with three in the first and never really looked back, beating the Florida Panthers 5–2. Elias Pettersson led the way with two goals, while Marco Rossi scored a goal and added two assists, and Brock Boeser piled up three assists.

Pettersson's Two Goals Put Him at 200 for His Canucks Career

Elias Pettersson hit the 200-goal mark against the Florida Panthers, and he didn’t sneak up on it quietly. Two goals, a near hat trick, and for the first time in a while, he looked like a player enjoying the game instead of trying to fight through it.

You could hear it afterward when he spoke with Dan Murphy. Pettersson was honest. It had been a stretch for him. The puck hadn’t been going in. And when it finally did, more than once, it felt like something had loosened.

He admitted that it had been a while since he’d scored a couple in a single game, but last night gave him a sense of relief. He expects more from himself. And, for the past two seasons, he's been in a bit of a funk. He hasn't been able to put up even half of the 102 points he put up in 2022-23. He put up 45 points last season and now has 40 in 59 games.

Pettersson Was Also Glad that His Team Played Well.

What made the milestone feel secondary, in a way, was that his team came out of its downward spin - at least for a game. As Pettersson noted, they have started to clean things up. Fewer chances against. More pucks are going toward the opposing goalie.

Not enough to turn the tables on the season, but for sure, better habits are starting to take hold. In a long season, that’s usually where the turn begins.

There’s still work ahead for both Pettersson and his Canucks teammates. He didn’t pretend otherwise. But this felt like last night's game might have been one of those small moments where things turned. The kind you don’t fully appreciate until a week or two later, when you realize something has shifted.

Canucks Fans Can Celebrate Pettersson's 200th and the Team's Rare Win

For Canucks fans, the 200th goal is easy to celebrate. It’s a marker of how far Pettersson has already come. But nights like this hint at something more important—that he’s not stuck where he was a few games ago.

He looked lighter. More like his old self. If that version sticks around, the number we’ll be talking about next might not be 200 for very long. Can he get 300? And, will it be with the Canucks? Those are questions that remain to be answered.
