Green Means Go: Castlegar’s Own Travis Green Inducted into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame

Travis Green has spent a lifetime in rinks across North America, but his latest milestone brings him right back to where it all started. The Ottawa Senators head coach recently received the news that he’s officially headed into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
For a former professional hockey players from Castlegar, this hits different. It isn’t just about the career stats; it’s about a homecoming, as Green commented when the news broke: "I don’t know if I could put it into words. The magnitude of being honoured like this—I don’t even know if it’s still sunk in. It’s such a great honour. I’m thrilled."
Grinding Out a Legacy
Before he was calling plays from the bench in Ottawa, Green was a fixture on the ice for fourteen seasons. Drafted 23rd overall by the Islanders in 1989, his playing career was defined by longevity, and he suited up for the Isles, Anaheim, Phoenix, Toronto, and Boston.
Green’s career numbers help paint a picture of a true pro:
970 Games and 455 Points: he nearly hitting that rare 1,000-game mark
Playoff Highlights: 56 games; in 2002, he played 20 games for Toronto as they earned their way to the Conference Finals
A New Chapter in the Room
Green’s transition to coaching has seemed natural; after leading the Portland Winterhawks to a WHL Championship in 2013, he paid his dues in the AHL as Head Coach of the Utica Comets and spent five seasons behind the bench in Vancouver followed by one season in New Jersey.
Ever-Green Legacy: A Permanent Spot in the BC Hockey Hall of Fame
Now, as he continues his coaching duties in Ottawa, this induction serves as a reminder of the depth of experience he’s leaning on. Joining the likes of Andrew Ladd and Josh Gorges in the 2026 class, Green’s spot as a BC hockey legend is officially set in stone.
