I have a feeling Montreal Canadiens fans are getting a little nervous about how this season has started. Nobody should panic after a handful of games, and there's plenty of time to turn things around. Still, the Canadiens haven't gotten off to the start they were hoping for, and sometimes a little help from an unexpected place can make a difference.

Maybe Kaiden Guhle can provide some of that help. The 24-year-old defenceman is set to make his season debut Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings after recovering from groin trouble and undergoing minor adductor muscle surgery this summer. His return won't solve all of Montreal's problems overnight, but getting a regular defenceman back into the lineup is a good place to start.

Guhle Brings Something the Canadiens Can Use.

Guhle isn't necessarily the guy who's going to light up the scoreboard. Last season, he managed just two goals and 11 points in 39 regular-season games. Those aren't numbers that will get anybody too excited about his offensive contribution. But Guhle brings some physicality to the Montreal blue line, and that's something a team can use when things aren't going particularly well. He can compete, make life uncomfortable for opposing forwards, and give the Canadiens another defenceman who isn't afraid to get involved.

That value matters, especially when a team is trying to find its footing early in a season. Not every player has to be a scorer or a power-play specialist. Sometimes, you need someone who can win a battle along the boards, clear the front of the net, and make opponents think twice before wandering into dangerous areas.

Of course, Guhle will need some time to get back into the rhythm of playing regular NHL hockey. Coming back from surgery isn't always as simple as stepping onto the ice and carrying on where you left off. Montreal will need to be patient with him, particularly if his minutes are limited at first.

Can Guhle Help Montreal Turn Things Around?

I wouldn't put the weight of the Canadiens' season on one returning defenceman. That's asking too much of anybody. Still, getting healthy players back matters. It gives the coaching staff more options, spreads the workload, and can bring a little energy to a dressing room that could use some encouragement.

The Canadiens have enough talent to be better than they've shown so far. Now they need to start putting the pieces together. Guhle’s return may not make a dramatic difference right away. But if he can bring some toughness, steady defensive play, and a little extra confidence to the blue line, that would be a useful start.

Sometimes a team doesn't need one big solution. It just needs a few things to go its way. Guhle might be one of them.
